Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~25,800

Author's Notes: Dear [livejournal.com profile] hoktauri, I tried to keep as many of your requests in mind but I fear that I've stretched some of them a little. I hope that you'll still enjoy your gift fic. Merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah!
Huge thanks to my incredible beta-reader [livejournal.com profile] kay_greatness who's supported me, cheered me on and pointed out all the orthographical, grammatical and plot-related errors to me. You're absolutely awesome, hon! Without you I wouldn't have made it!
The main plot takes place third-seasonish. I've attached a timeline to the end of the story for those of you who get a little lost on the way. ;) It's very basic and doesn't give away any of the plot, so don't hesitate to use it!
Warnings: highlight to read: mpreg, (very mild) dubious consent
Genre: first time, protective!Rodney, ensemble-fic, telepathic!aliens, captured
Summary: John gets interrogated mentally by telepaths and is forced to relive some very personal moments of his life in the Pegasus galaxy. Rodney doesn't leave his side and tries to come up with a plan to free John.

Creepy telepaths are creepy!

Thank you very much to my Santa for this rather inventive fic; I was quite surprised to open it up to see it's over 25K! I felt like I hit the Holiday jackpot here. :-)

And thank you for the Hanukkah wishes, too! :-D

I see that you did stick closely to a lot of my rather rambly and convoluted demands--kudos! I enjoyed the episodic feel of the events with the Skaldarans. I loved the McSheppiness of it as well, but honestly, your Lorne and Elizabeth were brilliant and spot-on--they stole the show with their small amount of 'screen time'. I really felt for Sheppard exactly what Lorne did, and then Liz coming through the Gate for John was awesome. *happy sigh*

It's quite a different concept of the gene you have going on here--but really, is there anything that damn gene *can't* do? :-)

One thing about the telepaths that I liked was their ability to pick up on the Expedition's dedication to each other. The fact that that came through to them and made them feel guilty (and rightfully so!) for invading their privacy was a nice touch.

And yay mpreg!! I was a little scared when John couldn't remember what happened between him and Rodney, but I was glad they were able to mend their friendship and admit to themselves their feelings. I'm also glad John made his decision to keep the baby before telling Rodney.

I really appreciate the time you've taken to include some of my more esoteric wishes in my fic. The effort you've put into this is clear--thank you Santa!

Yay! Glad you liked it! I gotta admit that I was a little overwhelmed with all your wishes at first and it took me quite some time to fit some of them in in a way that didn't seem odd but I'm relieved that you like the result. :)

It was very important to me to show the expedition's closeness, how much they all mean to each other and that the aliens got that, even with their strange culture and so. And it was also really necessary to get across John's consent to being together with Rodney in whatever way possible and also having a child with him even before he got pregnant.

And no, there's definitely *nothing* that damn gene can't do. ;) Pretty handy, isn't it? :D

Well, glad you enjoyed your fic! Thanks for your long comment! :)

Wonderful. Oh, right, and presumably both a very entertaining and maddening life with the most annoyingly brilliant man and their certainly adorable genius kid as well. Ohhh, fantastic last line. Love it. ♥

Hehe. Fascinating. Both you and your sis liked that last line while I wasn't sure about it at first. Guess I don't need to worry. ;)

I really liked how you weaved through this fic. From the dormant gene to the real reason for the mind probes. My only complaint is we never got to meet the little McKay-Sheppard baby! :)

Great job, Santa!

Thank you! Sorry that I didn't fit in an episode with the baby but the story had to end right there and foreseeing the future on top of all the other enhanced mental abilities of Teldan's people seemed a bit too much. ;)

Enjoyed the way you moved back and forth in time as the pieces of the story came together :)

Thanks! It was quite a challenge to write it like that without revealing too much too early but I'm glad that it worked for you. :)

Fascinating story format that really worked for this. I loved seeing the slow development of the plot and fining out what was going on. And thank you so much for letting Rodney and John know how the other really felt!

Thank you! And of course, I had to resolve the situation between the boys. They'll make such a nice family with their little genius baby. ;) I couldn't deny them that.

Wonderful story. I loved the reason that the telepaths had for their interrogation and how much everyone cared about getting John home safe. And of course the McShep :)
