Thank you. It was something I had to do, to look and see what was going on in Beckett's head. I've never written him before, and it was interesting to take what we're given on the show and compare it with what I know about people who do this kind of work (self included, past tense). One thing I find interesting about fan fiction is the way it can be used to add depth to a character, without taking him/her off canon.
Like you, I didn't think canon had dealt with these issues very well. It doesn't make for exciting television, and in some ways not exciting fic, either (thus the OMS, who serves as both dark comic relief and Socratic irritant). I fully expected few but dr_dredd to read or comment, given that it's Carson Beckett and gen. Thanks for the feedback.
