Dear Recipient, you are very very welcome! And no, I had no idea you were (also) fascinated by the notion of Rodney as a musician -- which makes this fic all the more serendipitous, because it's something I've been wanting to write for quite a while, and then suddenly The Time Was Right.
The comment above, about this being the flip side of String Theory (also one of my favourite AUs), is spot on! I love that fic, but it was always Rodney I could see as solo pianist. The hands! The shoulders! The ... well, see fic for details :)
I hadn't thought about the 'inventing a new math' resonance, but yes, you're right: it always amazes me how things sink down into my subconscious and get transmuted (or mangled) there before reappearing.
And that whole together / trust / symbiosis thing is what I love about the pairing: it doesn't even have to be sexual, as long as they are working together to do something bigger than both of them.
