Title: It's Growing Day by Day
Author: [livejournal.com profile] telesilla
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard, mention of: Teyla/Kanaan, Ronon/various
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~27,500
Summary: During a routine mission to check out an off-world Ancient lab, team Shep is cut off from Atlantis when the stargate is buried beneath a ton of rubble. There's another way off the planet, but getting there will not be easy.

Notes: First of all, I want to thank my awesome beta, who went over this in record time. Without her help, this story would have been so very messy. Auburn asked for many things, but the one that stood out and made me write this story was: " either Sheppard and McKay, or the whole team, or even a larger Atlantis contingent, is marooned on another planet Swiss Family Robinson-style." This isn't quite that, but it's close. :)

It's Growing Day by Day

Please note, due the length of this story, it is hosted offsite.

Great team story as well as John/Rodney story! Thanks for this. I loved the way the journey became so much more than a physical journey; it was also one that strengthened the ties between all the members of the team. The details really make a story like this, and you did those so well and in ways that drew from and built on things we already knew about them: Teyla missing Torren and worrying that he'd forget her, John being the one to take care of the ponies - and even Rodney and first-aid. Thanks. This is one I'm sure I'll come back to in the future.

Thank you! I'm glad the teaminess of it came through, that was as important to me as the John/Rodney relationship.

Now that was fantastic. Wow - I loved everything about it! So long and meaty, and a great premise. I loved the way you had thought out all the survivial aspects, and I loved the way they each changed a little to adapt to their trek and to each other. Rodney in particular. A great story.

Ohhhhh man that was amazing. I loved the interactions between the team, and all the details, and Rodney's narration and *sputters*... I just plain loved it.

awesome story. I adored the utter team-y-ness of it, how they all had strengths and weaknesses, and *knew* each other's strengths and weaknesses, and depended on each other. It was also wonderful how they all got to know each other even *better* on their trek. I really liked the McShep, and how they grew to share their relationship with Teyla & Ronon, and how their adventure and being with their team made their relationship stronger.

It was great seeing Sheppard as a leader, and assigning everyone a role that would take advantage of their strengths *and* shore up their weaknesses. I really liked all the background stories you gave everyone, from Rodney reading Jeannie the Oz books so often that he memorized them, to Teyla's childhood, to Ronon's poetry, to John's background with hunting and his taming of the ponies.

Oh, I adored the ponies so much! (their names! eee!) and how attached they all got to the ponies, especially John. I liked Ronon & Rodney bonding over fishing, and Teyla freaking out over missing her baby, and the how guys first felt lost and afraid when she lost her cool (she's their balance!), then brought themselves to comfort her. That scene where Teyla is weeping, and Rodney finds the right words to say to comfort her was so, so powerful...

The scenery you drew, so vast and panoramic, making us feel the *length* of their journey. Way cool Lord of the Rings references--Rodney as Gandalf, hee!--and the Oz references, and the Bill & Ted references.

What a wonderful way to end the story too--with their success--not just at finding a stargate, but another puddlejumper and lost Ancient City. I hope you write a sequel to this so that we can follow their adventures as they explore lost Ys, Atlantis' sister city. What a wonderful concept!

Wonderful, wonderful story. riveting for the whole length. when it ended I was left wishing it was even longer, so I wouldn't have to leave it. kudos.

This was amazing! Survival in the wild is on of my favorite setups and you did it brilliantly. I love how they told stories to each other and the ponies and how they come together even closer. Just...love.

Awww, good teamwork! I like that everyone had their jobs and they all grew closer and learned more about each other -- also that Rodney had the foresight to remove himself from the group and sit by himself when he felt like he might explode and say something he'd regret. And John was kind of adorable with his ponies.

I just stayed up way too late reading this - I loved it! I have missed your stories so much, and I'm tired and don't know what to say other than that you sucked me in so thoroughly and I feel that delightful kind of disoriented you get from reading something relaly satisfying. Thank you. :)

It's Christmas in April! (Hey, it's snowing, I say it counts.)

This was awesome. I love the growth of the relationships between them, both one-on-one and as a team. I also thought Rodney's POV and his sparks of awareness at his own changes were pretty spot-on. Definitely had me biting my nails at times, but the happily-ever-after was a great reward.

So, did Rodney actually take those first-aid classes? :)

I'd been meaning to read this one for a long time - finally got around to it! This was a lot of fun; I'm a huge sucker for wilderness survival stories, and I loved all the details of how they went about getting and transporting food, water, shelter, etc. Very enjoyable! :)
