"We don't have to talk about this ever again, but I want to ask you a question. Can I?" With every syllable, Rodney's lower lip brushed John's, and John twisted his hands in Rodney's t-shirt.
"Yeah."
Rodney pulled back a scant inch. "Are you in love with me?"
John swallowed, nodded, struggled to keep his eyes open, direct. "Yeah."
Rodney swallowed and John somehow managed not to bend his head to nip at his Adam's apple. "For a while?"
Before he even knew he was going to say it, John blurted, "For years and years."

Seriously, this was so, so perfect. There are some stories where the confession happens and it works because the characters were brought to that place and it makes sense, and they're wonderful. Then there are the stories where the characters don't have to be brought there because it works with the way we know the characters--this was that sort of story. I love both, but God, the burst of realism is just... keyboardmashingly awesome.
AND NOW I DIE OF LOL because the bit AFTER that was so hot and then so hilarious and you are a freaking genius. fdksjafkldsa.
"Time?!" Rodney lifted his head off John's shoulder to stare at him, incredulous. John flushed. "Do you know how much time we've wasted already? Years, John. Don't be stupid." He grabbed the covers off the end of the bed and wrapped them both in them like a burrito. "You're stuck with me."
If Rodney were to lick John for dibs this couldn't get more awesome. Thank you, thank you for a Christmas present that's not even for me, but feels that way nonetheless. ♥
