Fic: qua torva res es (McKay/Sheppard, NC-17)

From [livejournal.com profile] scarlettandblue with love for [livejournal.com profile] silverraven11
The request [livejournal.com profile] silverraven11 made is at the end of the story. I hope I managed to deliver on some of what you wanted.
Beta read by [livejournal.com profile] maaseru who has done the most fabulous job ever under very trying circumstances, i.e., me taking a very long time to write a pretty long story! Thank you so much for all your help.
I also admit I fiddled with it again after it came back from its final beta reading, so any mistakes you spot are all me.

Warnings:
It's a sort of canon AU, in that this is an AU of an AU that canon created. Slash. Swearing and sex and a few owies for our dear boys. So pretty much NC17 I'd say....

Disclaimer:
And of course I don't own John or Rodney (I wish!!) or any of the SGA and SG1 crew,
or any Navajo Tribal Police officers from new Mexico. But playing with them is such fun and you shouldn't sue anyone for having fun, should you?

Cool story! At first I was a bit confused, because I didn't really understand what canon AU this was an AU of, but eventually I got it. ;)

I really like the way John and Rodney's disillusion with their respective situations came through, and the way they fit together so well.

Yeah maybe I was a touch too cryptic in the summary
but I wanted this to be a fun present for Silverraven
and part of that (hopefully) was the slow unwrapping
so I really didn't want to give all my little secrets
away in the very beginning.
I'm glad you liked it though
Santa

Wow, that was *different*. Fascinating, not least because it's so completely unclear what will happen next.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-19 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
silverraven certainly set a challenge, but it was
very compelling trying to write something "different"
I'm glad to know you liked too.

Oh my gosh, this is just...wow. I mean, I...you... Okay *takes a deep breath and tries to form complete sentences*

This is incredible, and amazing, and pretty damn awesome. I asked for something a bit unusual and you delivered. Oh boy, did you deliver! You delivered on everything I wanted and then even more. This is so much beyond anything I could have hoped for.

When I realized you made them what I asked for (well, close enough *g*) I had to stop reading and bounce around on my chair, fighting the urge to squeal loudly and wake up my sleeping sister. I very nearly did, lol.

Add in the addition of the Millers and that it's an AU of that AU, and I ♥ this to epic proportions.

Thank you, Santa! Thank you so, so, so much!!!

:D :D :D

I am so very glad that you liked it,
it was a pleasure to write,
and my beta was amazing
but there was always a little bit of worry,
if it was going to be what you wanted.

So I'm delighted and very happy to know this was fun for you.
All the best,

Santa

plus yeah....
that episode
it pretty much is it for me and I'm glad it's the same for you too ;)

And what a major relief that you liked Jeannie and Mads and Kaleb.
My poor beta, I really was a little anxious over Madison in this so
I'm glad to hear that you liked them too :)

[identity profile] silverraven.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, hi Santa! I'm so curious now as to who you are :-)

Madison was just adorable in this. And I've adored Jeannie since the episode she was introduced so it was really fantastic that you included her in this.

I loved the slow build in this, that you revealed things in parts. The more I read, the more I couldn't stop reading, heh. I loved how you did the whole thing. When I wrote a certain sentence in my request (the fourth one), I never actually expected someone to do it. If that makes sense? But you did! And you did it brilliantly! In a way I would have never thought of, and fits in with canon, and isn't a cliche.

This was an absolute delight to read, and it makes me even happier to hear that you enjoyed writing it.

Again, thank you so much, Santa!!

T'da
it's me!
You're none the wiser are you ;-)

did you see there was a further part to your story in the Santa madness?

[identity profile] silverraven.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, Santa is revealed! I haven't been online very much the last few days and so didn't know there was a further part. I'm going to go read it right now. I can't tell you how excited I am!

[identity profile] solvent90.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This was fascinating. The slow-reveal plot was great and had me on the edge of my seat, but it's your characterisation that made me reread again and again. I adore your John and Rodney, of course, but you made me also really believe in, and care about, your Jeannie and Madison and Nancy and John's colleagues and even the cat. A really lovely unusual story.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-19 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you so much, you are very kind
I'm so glad you enjoyed it
and I'm pleased you liked the other characters.
It's hard sometimes to know if you managed to make
the supporting cast work as well. You know you can pour
your heart and soul into John and Rodney and they just
take whatever you have to give, but it's a relief to hear the other's worked as well.

[identity profile] gail19.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
The character voices are so strong. Excellent job making the shrink the bad guy without going to far over the edge. The cat was a lovely touch.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-22 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you
I'm really glad to hear what you had to say about the voices, and a relief to hear that they worked. plus it is so hard not to make the villan a moustache twirler so I'm glad to hear he wasn't over the top. I know when this story turned out to have two POVs I was quite taken aback, imagine my surprise when a third one turned up!! lucky for me that Calico was such a cutie ;-)

[identity profile] ozsaur.livejournal.com 2009-12-25 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
What a fascinating journey! I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end. Love how you combined such wonderful character studies of both Rodney and John with an intriguing plot. Enjoyed this very much!

Thank you so much
I'm really pleased you enjoyed it

[identity profile] skeddy-kat.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
That was way, way cool. Now I can only hope they get to run free together for a long, long time.

[identity profile] scarlettandblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
that's a lovely thought
although somehow I find it hard not to picture Dr Lee somewhere out it the desert with a very large butterfly net ;-)

It looks like the LJ link at the bottom doesn't leads to another fic page. Just a heads up for the mods.

Fortunately I could just backspace to leave a review.
Everything about this fic was wonderful. The family interactions. The mystery, everything. I'm curious if they'll remember when the change back. The last time Rodney didn't remember anything because of that nasty memory patch. And John... well maybe the head injury was to blame?

[identity profile] scarlettandblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you liked it thank you

And yes, that is the vexed question indeed
will they remember?

I shall have to consider that
but the reply above your comment could supply some insight ;-)

Awesome AU! This is one of the best "Vegas" fics I've read. I loved what you did with AU John & Rodney. I liked how keeping Simmons around in Area 51 made this AU a lot darker and the SGC much more sinister. Jeannie and her family--especially the precocious Madison--were very enjoyable. And John and Rodney's instant, visceral connection was blazing hot! Very, very cool!

[identity profile] scarlettandblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thatnk you
wow that is pretty amazing feedback thank you!
and I'm blushing now

I'm glad you liked Simmons, he makes a creditable bad guy in a way that is not too ott, because, hey, as far as he's concerned he's just doing his job!!!

Plus thank you for liking jeannie and co I was kind of unsure at first about the family aspect and Mads in particular so it's good to hear that worked for you.
I really appreciate this, thanks

[identity profile] e313.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
ah, this is brilliant! i loved reading this! it's compelling, and the characters come alive! the storytelling had me pissed off at their behalf on how they had been treated and screwed over and then relieved and happy they found each other again.

[identity profile] scarlettandblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
oooh thank you
I'm really glad you liked it and you made me blush too because you are too kind
thank you :-)
