Man, I love the SGA AUs, and this one is an instant classic. My favourie part was how they met - that Rodney was correcting John's designs and it was immediate chemistry.

This was absolutely stunning! I always (somewhat guiltily) adore a messed-up John and oh did I ache for him in this. Loved his relationships with Teyla & Ronon, how they loved him and knew how to be there for him. And his instant connection with Rodney, maybe almost too instant for him to handle. Plus all the lovely kite imagery & symbolism and flying as both a link to bad memories for John but also freeing for him.

I'm sort of rambling I think, but I thought this was a perfect mix of great characterizations and team vibe and angst and romance. And by the end I was soaring with hope and happiness myself. :)

Excellent story - one of the best au's I've ever read!

I do love John in this especially, he is so messed up. Rodney is perfect - a wonderful Uncle!

This was so lovely! Thank oyu for making a post to notice board -- I missed this story in December, and it made for a wonderful discovery this morning. I enjoyed reading it very much.

Wonderful. That John would open a kite shop after what happened in Afghanistan broke my heart.

There's so much to love about this story -- John's love of kites, his near instant affinity for Rodney, their playful competition, the flirting, the scorching hot sex, Madison and Torren's friendship, the frigid, windy Oregon Coast (my home state!), and even John's totally fucked-up freak out was enjoyable in a way. He's just so miserable and blank, and even after he gets to Rodney, he can't actually explain himself. Thank god Rodney can read between the lines.

I really enjoyed this. It's a fantastic romance, with some nice gut-wrenching -- and character appropriate! -- angst, and a happy ending. *happy sigh*

I have a soft spot for SGA AUs and this one is amazing! I love that even though the characters are removed from Atlantis and the SGC, they are incredibly consistent with their canon counterparts ... in every action and snippet of dialogue I saw and heard John and Rodney. This was so well done ... wonderful job! Now I'm skipping off to discover what else you have written. :)

Oh, and the sex scene? Oh. My. God. The tenderness and naked want and need made it simply scorching. ::Fans self::

This is so beautiful. The atmosphere, their love, their bickering. Wow, just wow.

Dude. Awesome. I'm so glad I'm the creepy stalker type and went hunting for your sga fics bc otherwise I might have missed this! Which is not acceptable. Bc the Oregon Coast, specifically the stretch of it between Florence and Yachats, is actually my favorite place on the earth. I've read all these sga aus set in Maine or nantucket or somewhere else off the east coast but never any on the other side of the rock and it made me really happy. The kite imagery was lovely and the sex was so intimate and tender, and I felt a little bereft when fall came. So yeah, A+, would stalk you again, etc.

Oh and HEY look you just replied to me awesome timing \o/

Very nice! I love AUs and yours is a wonderful one. I like Madison and how Rodney tries to be nice to her. I love Rodney in this and John - until he freaks out. *g*
I'm so glad he had enough courage to make his mistake right.
I love happy endings! *g*

OH MY. How did I miss this until now? God, I loved this SO MUCH. This might very well be my favorite earth AU ever -- it's almost certainly my favorite portrayal of John. Even though it's an AU, and because of that he's a slightly different John, he's still TOTALLY the John we know, and a fantastic version at that. And I couldn't possibly quote from the many, many phrases and sentences I loved in just one comment. The last line is SPECTACULAR.

This was really lovely. Thank you for writing it.

Wow. This fic was just so beautifully written. The way the words and scenes flowed was seamless, and I found myself completely caught up in the story. I loved your John and your Rodney and every other character; but I think especially your John and the way he saw Rodney through his eyes.

I loved the quiet of this fic; the tone. The way I could feel the tension and the emotion in every scene and word spoken. Stunning. Thanks so much for writing this.

[identity profile] neensz.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god. Well written with wave farms and thermal energy and a kite shop and an effed up John and a socially awkward Rodney and all plotty with hurt and pain and drama without being horrifically angsty and drama-y--and Oregon. I think I love you. So much.

I think the only way I could love this fic more would be if you'd made John correct Rodney's pronunciation. "It's Or-rih-gun, not Or-ree-gone."

[identity profile] lilz54.livejournal.com 2012-06-09 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Nicely done! Thought John had really messed things up and was going to lose Rodney for sure. Thanks for sharing your talent as this was a wonderful read!
