This is gorgeous. A little alien and a little familiar, lyrical, and real enough in the small things that it is all almost visible. Not a pairing I've thought about particularly, and not a pairing I would have associated with this sort of patient thoughtfulness between them, and I am glad I read it, because it has added so much more to the characters.
