No intrusion at all -- it was very frustrating not to be able to respond properly until reveal! I'd forgotten toft_froggy quoted that too: I'd read it fairly recently in programme notes, probably for a piano concerto, but completely forgotten context.

And yes, I very much had Brahms in mind -- the piano concertos are stupendous, just perfect Rodney music, definitely BETTER FASTER LOUDER MORE.
