OMG, dear mystery writer, you have floored me with this gorgeous fic! You can't possibly have known this, but I have always been fascinated with the idea of Rodney as a musician, from the very moment he informed us that he'd studied piano but had been told he had no passion for it. There is just so much to love here, I don't even know where to begin. Someone in the thread above mentioned "String Theory," which stands as one of my favorite SGA AUs of all time, but you've taken that a step closer to canon by having Rodney actually play, and I adore you for it.
While reading, I couldn't stop thinking about how in "Tao of Rodney" McKay is forced to invent a new math because the old theories can't keep up with him. This is a wonderfully creative reinvention of that, and having John as his conductor is *perfect*: it puts them in the same kind of role they play in canon, but with a completely different - and beautifully realized - context:
This was how it'd felt to lead a charge, to have a mass of men at his command: nothing without the others, part of a whole that was greater than the sum of its parts. He was nothing without the music, without the way he and McKay were making this together.
That is them exactly, isn't it? It just goes to show that these two are meant to be, no matter what the time, place, or circumstance.
Thank you so, so much for writing this! You could not possibly have pleased me more. :)
