Fic: Tongues of Men and Angels (McKay/Sheppard, PG13)

Title: Tongues of Men and Angels
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mad_maudlin
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] ca_pierson
Pairing: John/Rodney, OC/OC (sorta), implied past John/Nancy (sorta)
Length: 58,428
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: SG-1 themed AU; original characters; whump
Disclaimer: Not mine. Never mine. ::poke poke::
Author's Notes: All hail L, queen of betas, long may she reign. This longassed thing is the result of National Novel Writing Month, unemployment, and my recip's request for plot. CA, this is probably more plot that you actually wanted, but I hope it meets your expectations. The title is from First Corinthians 13, a chapter better known for its ruminations on faith, hope and love.
Summary: When SG-4 is ambushed offworld, an injured Major John Sheppard must put his trust in a Tok'ra agent named McKay to survive. But what secrets is McKay keeping about his mission, the planet, and his own motives for helping John?

This is a wonderful story. I love how involved it it, how it's detailed but never too much, and how gradually but naturally John comes to accept everything that's happened to him and how his life will be now.

Oh, I liked this a lot! Plot and characterisations were great, though I do wish we'd gotten to know Tanys and Kharoush a bit better. Still, this kept me up until 2 am, and I don't regret it. ♥

I really cannot parse out what was my favorite part; therefore, I conclude that it was EVERYTHING.

Nothing short of amazing!

::bows:: I had so much fun writing this, and I was so worried about whether you'd like it! I'm not the only one who's written Tok'ra!Rodney, I know, but this plot bunny wouldn't leave me alone...

Thank you! Yeah, Rodney isn't exactly your first choice for a Tok'ra host, but all in all it works out surprisingly well.

Yes, that's exactly how I see Rodney and Tanys working together--he needs somebody to keep his shit together for him, and luckily she likes him that way. :-)

Thank you! I was actually worried about selling the romance when it starts out in such bad terms. That, and the fact that it's technically an OT4...

You're welcome! It's so convenient to have a symbiote around when you need to get someone as screwed-up as John to exposit. :-)

Thank you! I rewrote that last chapter so many times, because O'Neill is so hard to get right.

Thank you! I was actually uneasy about Kharoush and Tanys, since I know how some people react to OCs, so I'm glad people liked them.

Thank you! I always loved the Goa'uld/Tok'ra as characters on SG-1, and yet they paid very little attention to the experience of symbiosis or the psychology of the host/symbiote relationship. So this was a great chance to play with those ideas, or at least my interpretation of them.
