I enjoyed this very much. John's POV was well-done. The Shep whump was awesome - vulnerable but still himself and still fighting. The slowly developing lung problem was realistic and made me feel a bit breathless just reading it. I loved the way the present events and the memories were woven together and I really liked the backstory you developed here - totally believable. Then there was a nice warm team-ending to round the story off - perfect.
