I enjoyed the deliberative pace and detail here--a fine setting for Rodney and John's unveiling of themselves (the irony of their having had to hide their emotions "in plain sight" of all Atlantis heightens the shortsightedness there.) I appreciated how you showed their interactions with both major and minor characters on that windswept world: one could see how the two were adapting in their own ways, according to their abilities and interests.
