I liked that you didn't really explain everything -- we don't know what really happened in the village, we don't know how much of this "disease" is lingering, etc.
Either I left room for sequels, or I didn't want to spend all that time writing.
I think Rodney and John trust their own instincts as much as they trust each other. That makes them such a good team.
